o celebrate the 25th anniversary of ugkãs first album, get on down goes the extra mile, presenting it for the first time ever on vinyl. and 2-lp clear vinyl at that, giving the strutting, funky grooves the chance to really stretch out on your system. back in 1992, southern hip-hop was still proving to the world that it could sustain a fan base that was chiefly raised on rap from new york and la. the geto boys and 2 live crew had made strong cases by the earliest 90s, and pimp c and bun b were ready to make their own. most of the trunk-bumping bass comes from drum programs and basic sampling on these tunes in later years they would build their sound into something even fuller and deeper. self-produced with additional work from houston locals bernie bismark and shetoro henderson, the tracks here are minimal, slow and menacing, which matched their lyrical approach quite nicely. you can hear the beginnings of the groups true greatness in these early lyrical workouts ¹ several taken from the regional cassette-only ep the southern way that got them signed to jive with tales of street hustles, relationships and self-reliance in a world stacked against them. they may have been done early-on, but that doesnt mean they arent crucial to ugks legacy cases in point being the three singles: something good, a charismatic update to bill withers use me up, and pocket full of stones (the latter featured on the menace ii society soundtrack). beyond the singles, deeper cuts like iãm so bad, feels like iãm the one whos doin dope and cramping my style made it clear to the world that this crew had the attitude and charisma to make even bigger waves in the years to come.

italian producer alfredo mazzilli presents us with logical strength, his second ep on weekend circuit. across 4 tracks he expresses his own unique take on the deepest strains of techno and it s outer reaches. ep opener logical strength is a throbbing piece of driving, menacing wormhole music with heavy arpeggiated sounds and rock solid, incessant drum-programming, leaving nothing standing in it s wake it is a firm statement of intent. nuvole sees the pace change slightly, adopting more of an eerie, borderline hallucinatory feel. the track unfolds beautifully with heavenly pads and synth swells draped across some tribally infused drums. on side 2 we have a stellar remix of nuvole from eminent swedish producer evigt mörker who travels a more subdued, sedate path with his interpretation. finishing off this 4 track excursion we are drawn into the beatless, introspective terrain of parhelion . a beautifully nuanced and subtle way to close things. washes of synth and atmosphere embrace us as we travel onwards, deeper into the night. alfredo mazzilli shows us once again his own individual and unique style on this ep, another essential chapter in the weekend circuit story.

loco dices desolat label welcomes uk artist waff for its next ep, a meaty four tracker by the name of hanzz sup. in recent times, waff has really established himself as one of the beacons of main room house and techno around the world. from standout sets at key ibiza clubs to gigs at fabric, london via big underground hits on labels like drumcode, cocoon and hot creations, he is a real man of the moment. the title track opens the ep in fine style with hulking great big kicks reverberating down low as wonky tones and scattered percussion add more heat. barreling along and taking no prisoners, it is a hugely physical drum track with spoken word mutterings piling on the pressure. making just as big an impression but in less direct ways, the shuffling and bubbling karimba is a skittish, busy affair with tribal drums and vocal chants all layered up into something that is sure to become anthemic in ibiza this summer. on the flip side hypnotised works on getting into your brain with tight, scurrying drum and percussive patterns that never let up. its a dense, busy arrangement that makes for a high octane ride. last of all inception takes on more of a house feel, with well swung, low slung drums bringing the groove as hammering hits and frosty synth lines keep busy up top. this is house and techno that makes a big impact from one of the most on point producers out there right now.

one of electronic music’s greats steps back into the limelight with his first ep in more than 10 years. erik van den broek, the dutch producer who is probably better known under some of his pseudonyms such as shiver, essit musique and acid kid dominated the 90’s with a slew of brilliant acid and electro releases on dance arena productions and shiver. erik was a firm favourite of dave clarke and laurent garnier who included some of his tracks on their perfectly blended mix cds (x-mix electro boogie and laboratoire mix respectively).
erik already made an appearance on de:tuned’s 5 years box set in 2014 with the track primerose and now he’s back with more previously unreleased material. the tracks on offer are all on a deeper tip, with warm yet slightly eerie and mysterious sounds, clever programming and subtle effects. proof that erik has still got it after all these years. these tracks were made during an emotional time for erik, something that is clearly reflected in the music.
once again we enlisted alan oldham for artwork duties and matt colton for mastering the source material to perfection. this ep will be available on 180 gr vinyl. a digital release will also be available from all the usual outlets. de:tuned are honoured to have worked with erik on this release, a very personal record for him. thanks erik & emiel for your confidence and support!

after studying dance, kirikoo des aka nsdos, felt the need to create his own sound in order to explore movement. this is how he started imagining a whole new sonic order, an alternative approach to music – through abstraction. nsdos can’t restrain himself to existing technological tools and softwares, he prefers creating his own mediums: futurist instruments made of old audio converters (carte son), gameboy emulators, pieces of metal dismantled and weld together giving form to surreal machines. surrounded by his hybrid tools, nsdos unravels the rectilinear anatomy of techno music. textures are exploded, sounds mutilated, and brought back to their essence. this sonic odyssey, nsdos initiated in his native town paris before exploring it deeper in berlin – a city that he sees as a giant laboratory in which he experimented the field of possibilities. a huge admirer of the dada and lettrism movements, nsdos can be considered as the offspring of a diy culture. he ranks among his icons artists such as christian marley, stelarc or donna haraway who gave him a desire to push the limits of the body, objects and sound. his alternative vision and the way he reinterprets technological tools have made him one of the most important techno hackers of his generation. nsdos doesn’t create, he regenerates and transmutes music. his creative path is empirical, sometimes organic as he puts sensors on insects, his public in trance, trees – everything that comes on his way – and transcribes their movement into sounds. after three maxis, lazer connect in 2013, female guest list in 2015 both signed on parisian music label clekcleckboom recordings and money exchange published in 2016 on his label standalone complex, his new album, intuition, intervenes as the completion of his organic vison of music. inspired by meteorological stations and according to a principle of « bio feedback », nsdos surveyed the movements of nature, turned into data before translating them into sounds, textures and rhythms. the album comes with a series of 5 videos detailing the creative process of the artist – from recording in the middle of nature to the studio. in intuition, nsdos splinters the boundaries between genres and places techno as a matrix. his album reveals his sense of discipline, one that he draws from his passion from japanese dance buto, as well as his interest for biology, his experimental aura through industrial, sometimes nearly metal sounds. all these elements form the essence of whole new movement, unclassifiable, of which he constantly pushes the frontiers.

“black origami” is driven by a deep creative thirst which she describes as “this driving feeling that i wanted to do something different, something that challenged me to my core. black origami for me, comes from letting go creatively, creating with no boundaries. the simple definition of origami is the art of folding and constructing paper into a beautiful, yet complex design. composing music for me is like origami, only i m replacing paper with sound. i chose to title the album -black origami- because like -dark energy- i still create from the beauty of darkness and blackness. the willingness to go into the hardest places within myself to create for me means that i can touch the infinity.”

following on from the pasteur lappe compilation “african funk experimentals” lp, we are really pleased to be re-visiting pasteur with a repress of his second album from 1979, “na man pass man”.

paris based label rose et rosée is proud to present the first solo ep from artist bataille. this second release from rer is a self- contained universe that fits into the label’s open-minded, experimental style. veteran of the parisian club scene, bataille has risen through the ranks of several house and minimal labels with his group antislash (circus company) as well as joining forces with trans -genre labels such as silicate to release solo work under the name john merrick.

rendered is the relatively new collaboration between daniel myer (haujobb, architect) & clement perez (14anger), both veterans of their respective genres spanning early 90s ebm and darkwave to more recent destructive techno releases. this fresh offering via fleisch combines both of their signature styles into a colossal and abrasive 31 minute rhythmic barrage.

future déjà vu is a berlin based techno label. behind such paradoxical definition of time lies an elementary objective: the promotion of a functional sound, able to be immediately usable on a techno-floor. the immediacy of the sound becomes in turn paradox itself and its planes turns into power.

following the big success of the tmng001 catalogue, label-head yaya strikes back on his own label with another wicked release. his second ep called ‘unconditional love’ also features the first tamango remixer ever and we’re more than proud to have ‘panorama bar’ lady cassy on board. the ep kicks off the things with entitled ‘unconditional love’ which features yaya’s typical trademark groove with some extra great tribal-drums contaminations combined with a great caribbean-oriented female chant, giving life to a proper dancefloor burner. a2 is about cassy. she has been into the music industry since 2003 when she moved to berlin and she’s fresh of her latest album ‘donna’ on ‘aus music’ last year. she provides a beautiful and heavier interpretation of ‘unconditional love’, adding crisp percussions and pure analogic spatial pad, creating a dreamlike dimension surrounded by the massif utilization of pitched endless vocals. the b-side contains the dub version of ‘unconditional love’ for the ones who need a precise and outspoken tool without the vocal part. closing the ep is ‘lone wolf’ which is the prove to dispel any doubt on yaya’s producing skills: the track immediately approaches into softer sonority with nimble analogic and syncopated synths and rapid drums, with hi-hats and shakers only, for another tamango unmissable chapter.

the time has come again to welcome two new faces to the second state gang. introducing two of russia’s biggest exports and house elite, julia govor and tripmastaz. between julia govor’s recent meteoric rise and tmz s (the fresh alias for the more techno leaning output of tripmastaz) long discography of avant-garde clubland hits, the pairing of the two are a match made in heaven. over the course of three tracks the pair craft an expertly woven tapestry of hefty sonics resulting in their debut collaboration, ‘the probability’ ep. from the start, the aptly titled ‘1-’ kicks off with an enormous breakbeat kick and distant reverb heavy percussion forging a shimmering atmosphere as energetic hi-hats and swirling tones crescendo into a deep yet celestial fervor. ‘plus two’ sees the pair spawn their heaviest tune of the bunch as rolling low end and trippy, churning synths give way to a barrage of energetic claps and racing ride cymbals sure to make any dancefloor explode. wrapping up the ep is ‘equals tree’ where ethereal tones and flickers of delicate acoustics defy a monotonous yet robust groove culminating in a beautiful display of opposing forces. we couldn’t be happier with the outcome of this stunning ep and we know you will revel in it for a long time to come

the self-proclaimed funkiest band on the west coast of africa, the heads funk band, could arguably make that claim for the whole continent. featuring the slick guitar of felix ‘feladey’ odey, the slinky drumming of eddie offeyi and the swirling keyboard chops of kevin ‘fortune’ coburn, nobody was funkier. and that’s not even taking into account the dance floor monsters they were releasing at the same time as akwassa.
